‘Containers For Change’s’ Official Opening …
Locals have been taking advantage of Yarrabilba’s new Containers for Change refund point with over 2 million drink containers recycled since its opening on 15 August 2022.
The new depot operated by Community Co Recycling has been brought to the region to help support local residents and community groups with their recycling. Community Co have also included their free Container Collect service for those who prefer to have their drink containers picked up from home. Community Co’s Managing Director Doogan O’Hanlon says that the new depot has received a significant uptake during its soft launch phase of opening. “Feedback from the community has been really positive, every day we are making new connections with people and community groups who are bringing their containers in to be refunded.”
The new depot held its Grand Official Opening on 8 October 2022, celebrating with cash prize draws for those who came down to cash in their empties, exclusive giveaways and a free sausage sizzle thanks to the Logan Village Lions Club.
The Containers for Change scheme provides a 10-cent refund to customers returning eligible beverage containers at any registered point across Queensland. More than 12 locals will be employed at the new depot, with customers able to drive through to cash in their containers or simply drop off their bags to receive an electronic refund.
