Keeping The Anzac Spirit Alive

On Friday, 23rd April, Yarrabilba State School commemorated ANZAC Day. Our student leaders presented a heartfelt and moving ceremony, recognising the sacrifices made by all of our service men and women. We were very lucky to have the support of our special guests; Mr John Leggatt (Logan Village RSL Sub Branch), Corporal Rob Preston (Kokoda Barracks) and Division 4 Councillor, Laurie Koranski (Logan City Council).

Mr Leggatt spoke to the audience about the importance of keeping the ANZAC spirit alive in us all by demonstrating, mateship, courage, bravery, determination and leadership. Corporal Rob Preston, currently serving in the Australian Army and a parent at our school, read a poem called ‘Not a Hero’.
Student representatives from each class then laid handmade wreaths, followed by our special guests, school P&C representatives and members of the Yarrabilba community. Our senior choir proudly sang ‘Can you hear the Children Marching’, and led the audience in singing both the Australian and New Zealand National Anthems.
