Thanks to community feedback, the local ‘Green becomes great’!
Work will begin this month on a community-inspired adventure playground as part of Logan City Council’s upgrade of the Logan Village Green.
The $1.6 million upgrade has been in planning and design since the 2018 Logan Village Forum, where the project was identified as one of the priorities.
Community engagement included a ‘Place to Play’ event last year that focused on engaging children to assist in providing ideas for the design of the playground.
Features of the playground include a bird’s nest play structure, trampolines, a flying fox, totem poles with ropes and a dry creek bed flanked by timber steppers and balance beams.
Play equipment includes a universal access spinner and an all-abilities multi-swing.
Other works in the Village Green upgrade include a small amphitheatre, a shelter and seating, a barbecue, an upgraded water bubbler, additional lighting and signage and an avenue of large trees. A safety camera is already installed in the area, which is monitored 24/7.
City Lifestyle Committee Chairperson and local Division 4 Councillor Laurie Koranski said Council was delighted to be delivering a project that had received so much local community input.
“Council listened to what the community wanted when the upgrade was first discussed at the Logan Village Forum and now we are ready to turn those ideas into an exciting new facility,” Cr Koranski said.
“Council understands how important free open spaces like the Logan Village Green are to local communities. That’s why it was important that the community was involved in every step of the planning and design.”
Council has invested $1.1 million into the upgrade while the project also has received $500,000 from the Federal Government’s Building Better Regions Fund Round 3.
Cr Koranski said feedback from the local community had helped design a unique and special facility.
“The Village Green is in the heart of Logan Village and is an open space that is much loved and well-used by the local community,” she said. “All new structures and elements have been designed to reflect the rural and heritage character of the Village. Locals and visitors have always loved spending time in the Village Green and this upgrade will further enhance those enjoyable times.”
Works are scheduled to be completed by December, weather permitting!
